Workshops for educators

Karpos offers workshops especially designed for teachers, educators, youth workers and professors. They vary in length according to the aim of the participants and their level of knowledge in media, media production and the use of audiovisual language in a group of students.

Our aim is to familiarize teachers with the various forms of audiovisual expression (photography, film, sound recording, video, mixed media) as well as the possibilities of using these forms in class or in a project.

Filmmakers in schools
Karpos collaborates with the Directorate of Secondary Education in East Attica, in a Training and Development scheme in collaboration with the General Secretariat of Youth. The seminars address Secondary Education teachers and young filmmakers aiming at creating a network of schools where student groups create short videos.
Reasearch and thematic concepts are developed through democratic processes in all schools. Scriptwriting, exchange of ideas, team work and activities with diogital cameras are the basic tools before actual video production.

The MELINA project- Education and Culture
The MELINA Project was designed as an experimental project of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Culture of Greece. The project was launched in 1995-96 and until 2001, it was implemented in 92 primary schools in Greece, 2 primary schools in Cyprus and all primary schools of Chania in Crete, in collaboration with the local educational and cultural institutions as well as the local municipality and prefecture. The members of Karpos were responsible for the audiovisual workshops and seminars of the project.

Summer workshops for the Network for Theater in Education
T-NET organises every year a summer camp for teachers offering seminars in theater, dance, music and movement. Karpos designed twice a 5 day seminar for this summer camp  in film, media literacy and media production.     August 2008, July 2009
Primary and Secondary School networks
Thanks to the sponsorship of AGET Heracles, member of Lafarge Group, Karpos in collaboration with the Directorates of Primary and Secondary Education of EVIA Prefecture, organised a series of hands-on workshops on the use of photography, film and video introducing audiovisual education for school groups. The aim was to help teachers understand the media language and encourage them to initiate small projects in their classrooms.
Animation in Pre-school education
We all know that young children love animated materials and characters. We guide and support many animation projects with young children. However we are not only intertested in just making a nice looking animation but also in the process of making a story with the children, preparing the visualisation of it and understanding how the moving image works. Often nursery school teachers that participated in our hands on workshops experiment with their pupils and complete short films even in small villages.  We are happy that teachers put into use what they learn and move further!
